Description:

A compact variety for general garden use, featuring volumes of showy soft pink flowers in spring on arching stems; very attractive in bloom, rather unassuming the rest of the year, excellent in the garden background

Ornamental Features

Nikko Blush Deutzia is bathed in stunning corymbs of white bell-shaped flowers with a shell pink reverse along the branches in late spring, which emerge from distinctive fuchsia flower buds. It has green deciduous foliage. The narrow leaves turn burgundy in fall. The peeling gray bark and brick red branches add an interesting dimension to the landscape.

Landscape Attributes

Nikko Blush Deutzia is a dense multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a shapely form and gracefully arching branches. Its relatively fine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage.

This is a high maintenance shrub that will require regular care and upkeep, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. It is a good choice for attracting birds, bees and butterflies to your yard. It has no significant negative characteristics.

Nikko Blush Deutzia is recommended for the following landscape applications;

  • Mass Planting
  • Hedges/Screening
  • General Garden Use

Planting & Growing

Nikko Blush Deutzia will grow to be about 4 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 5 feet. It tends to be a little leggy, with a typical clearance of 1 foot from the ground. It grows at a slow rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 20 years.

This shrub should only be grown in full sunlight. It is very adaptable to both dry and moist locations, and should do just fine under average home landscape conditions. It is not particular as to soil type or pH, and is able to handle environmental salt. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. This particular variety is an interspecific hybrid.
